Shaheen and Shouniez Van Der Schyff are quite the hoopy couple. The husband and wife duo have been spinning things up for the past two years and it’s really made an impact on their lives, and their relationship. Shaheen told Hooping.org, “Being a guy I initially said typical things like ‘Hooping is for girls’ and ‘Guys can’t Hoop’, but a few months later at an outdoor music festival I found myself dancing and getting lost in a hoop for hours.” Now they have a shared passion, one that has “provided us with hours of entertainment and it has opened our hearts to so many amazing people and so many amazing adventures. It also rekindled our already playful spirit.” Watch for some tandem hooping, skateboard hooping and some beautiful fire spinning too. They live in Cape Town, Western Cape, South Africa, and the soundtrack here is “The Light (Zen Mechanics Mix)” by Ace Ventura (on iTunes).
We’re so excited to share a new hoop dance video from Sass – it’s been a few years and you probably remember Sandi “Sass” Schultz from The Hooping Life and as our hostess and guest judge for The Amazing Hoop Race in South Africa. She’s apparently been busy launching her new clothing line. The soundtrack is “Dance Me to the End of Love” by Madeleine Peyroux (on iTunes)and she says, “This is one of my favorite songs to show my hooping students why it’s called hoop-DANCING. You don’t need to be techy or tricksy. With the hoop as your partner, sometimes it’s marvelous to just dance.” She lives in Johannesburg, South Africa.
A year ago Arise and Hoop hosted their first gathering at Llandudno. A year later they’ve spun up a truly awesome hooping community and decided to kick the year off right with a Flow Gathering and Fire Jam down at Clifton 2nd Beach in Cape Town. About 80 people turned out to hoop things up in the daylight, and heat things once the sun sets, setting the night ablaze fire hoop style. If it’s cold where you are and you’re feeling the Winter blues you’re sure to enjoy dropping in on this awesome summer beach party in the Southern Hemisphere. Arise and Hoop are in Cape Town, South Africa, and the soundtrack for this is “Martian Blues” by Cosmosis and it’s available for download on iTunes. Video by Corette Barham.
