I’m a member of Playing By Air, a Nashville-based circus arts & entertainment performance group. The core of the group is focused on juggling but we use all kinds of prop & body manipulation, including hoop dance (me!), aerial fabric, break dancing, unicycles, extreme drumming and freestyle soccer, amongst others. Fire?

Of course! :) I’ve only fire hooped a few times (as of this writing), but my favorite by far was fire hooping at Hoop Convergence 2010. I use 32″ polypro hoops (5/8″ outer diameter) with HoopDrum’s new Quick Wicks — I recommend getting used to the weight of the hoop with the unburned wicks first, especially with high performance lightweight tubing, and then on the first burn of the night, warm yourself up first to the weight, sound & heat by just core hooping, then slowly add in lifts and off body movements.

A Favorite Hooping Memory

Hoop Convergence 2010 — the whole weekend was magical! and the Sarasota Film Festival for “The Hooping Life” premiere…..both times I felt honored to be in the presence of such wonderful and sweet people who share my ability to geek out over not only our obvious passion, but also to find other common bonds as well.
