Soon (like tax return soon) I will be purchasing my 1st LED hoop. I am wondering what settings people like to use on their cameras for photography to get those long light trail pix. I am sure you must leave the shutter open for a bit. Any tips?

    Thanks!

You do need to have a longer exposure to capture the light trails, but there’s a balance you have to find with your camera because if you have too much exposure then everything else in the picture is blurry/smeared (especially if you aren’t using a tripod). Using the flash helps make you more visible and in focus.

The best thing I can suggest is playing with the camera settings to see what gives you the results you like best. You will need a patient friend to help you though as it does take a bit of trial and error.

I had found that I actually liked getting LED shots without a flash – but still with a little bit of light coming from somewhere in the room. I also recently used a “fireworks” setting on my camera and there were CRAZY trails everywhere!

Thanks for the words of advice! I have used the fireworks setting for actual fireworks and had really good results w/ it, so I will definitely try it out when I get the hoop.

good question! I’ve been wondering about it myself. as I love hooping with my led, but don’t get the AMAZING shots I see elsewhere. I want pretty pics too! good luck. I’m gonna see if my camera has a fireworks setting. thanks!

I have a nikon with a night landscape setting. It gets some of those desired trails, but nothing spectacular. I’ll have to try the fireworks setting.

Hey, I have a nikon too – maybe that’s what I did. I’ll have to check on the fireworks too.

The presets on your camera can sometimes get really good pictures depending on the lighting. I’ve used auto, manual, fireworks, and night (all with flash and without the flash). The pictures in complete darkness vs low light look different, so experiment and see how they turn out!
