Welcome to the hoop instructors forum! I will be co-moderating with the fabulous Rayna McInturf and we ‘re looking forward to discussing all aspects of teaching and sharing the hoop love.

I came into the online hoop world when Tribe was on it’s last legs – still a valuable resource but plagued by frustrating technical issues. And so I’m really excited to be part of this new online community, one made up of the brightest stars of the hooping world and at a time where hoop dance is bubbling up into the zeitgeist all over.

As hoop dance instructors, it’s an incredible feeling to share the joy of hooping with other people and to see the spark in their eyes as they see what the hoop can do for them. To guide a student from the negative “I couldn’t possibly do that” mindset (whether it be keeping the hoop on the waist or preparing for their first ever performance ) to the realisation that they CAN do that and more, is what inspires and motivates me as a hoop teacher.

Of course, it’s not always fun and games. A hoop teacher’s journey can also be frustrating and scary at times. Am I good enough to teach? Will anyone come to my classes? Can I make a living from teaching hoop?

This forum is here to help us share, inspire, grow and connect with others in the same boat.

And as it’s your forum, we want to know….what topics do you want to discuss? What do you want from the Hoop Instructors group?

I always find it is hard to come up with warm-ups and cool downs for classes. It is also good to share different hooping games you can play during classes, some of my favs are a relay game, one upper game and continuous revolving door.

Also for those of us teaching hoop fitness classes different ideas for exerciase that would help with hooping would be great to discuss as well.

YAY! I’m so excited to have this new hooping.org as another place to scope out hooping info :)

Yes – welcome everyone! I am thrilled to be moderating this group with Jo – its such an honor to be a part of this community and especially to support the teaching of hoopdance – something that I believe is a HUGE positive force in the world!

Throughout my almost decade long journey as a hoopdance teacher and trainer, seeing a student’s face light up when they “get it” is still what inspires me the most. I think the challenges we face in getting students to that point are what makes that moment so sweet.

I think being able to remain open as a teacher – both to learning from your students and learning from other teachers – is what makes an excellent teacher. Hoopdance is an ever-evolving movement, so it makes sense that there is ALWAYS something new to learn! So, in this group, I’m looking forward to supporting all of you, and learning from you as well :)

Amanda – one warm up I like to do once my students are proficient in walking while waist hooping is to get everyone into a hooping jog around the room in a circle – gets the blood pumping, and makes for a lot of laughs! And one of my favorite fitness hooping exercises is the hooping lunge – really targets the lower body ;)

    in hoopiness,
    Rayna

    Hi, everyone
My name is Casandra, I’m a HoopGirl certified hoopdance instructor in South Florida.
I’m really interested in growing a tighter network among hoopdance teachers, and I’ve developed a professional development workshop format for hoopdance teachers to join together in a non-threatening environment and TEACH EACH OTHER. We’ve held two so far, with great success!
I’m looking forward to studying implementation of this program as part of a masters thesis project THIS YEAR for the Contemplative Education program at Naropa University… anyone interested in getting interviewed, or hearing more about these workshops?
    Peace
    Casandra
