Yesterday the hubby was off so I had quite a bit of time on my hand where I could hoop. he’d been going through a old case of cds (can we say 20 year old collection?) and so I got to hoop to all different types of music. The rhythm of the songs- fast, slow, all that effects how I was hooping. It was GREAT! The flow was so wonderful, new & the songs directed the way I should go.
So I’d like to challenge you all to try-for just one day- to find a radio station, pandora, lastfm, some random playlist somewhere~ just music you haven’t been hooping to, music you wouldn’t even think to hoop to, then HOOP TO IT! I have to say it was a great lesson for me in flow & rhythm and I’m doing it again today. :)

This is so great & sort of synchronistic – I recently had new shelves built in my studio, partly for the hundreds of CDs, some of which I haven’t listened to in a looooooong time! This is just what I’ve been doing, picking a CD and trying it out. You are right, everything does impact how we flow with the hoop. It really increases spontaneity & creativity, just to break out of what I “thought” would be good hooping music. This is very good for me. :-)

I do this nearly EVERY time I hoop (I don’t have a lot of CDs, I don’t have an ipod, just my cellphone with Pandora app) Today I hooped to a lot of hip hop. One song that stood out to me that was a very blissful hooping experience was this: Pursuit Of Happiness (Nightmare) by Kid Cudi

BTW lilgamoma, if you just paste the link to the song, I think it autoembeds. If you can see the video on this post once I post it, then I am correct in that. Using the embed codes don’t work lol, they just show up blank.

One song that disappointed me was Eminem’s Recovery. For various reasons, I have always vibed soooo hard to this song, and I love to sing it. I feel so strong, grateful, and happy, till tears come sometimes, when I listen to this song. Hooping to it? Nothing. Maybe there is a separation between the music I love from an emotional or vocalist standpoint vs music I can dance/hoop to, even though I’ve always danced to that song, I couldn’t HOOP dance to it. Weird. Anyways, challenge accepted, these are some results lol.

I tried hooping to celtic flute and bagpipes the other day! my hooping style changed entirely from how i normally hoop. quite refreshing!

OK – don’t laugh – but Michael Jackson’s Smooth Criminal helped me get the hoop from waist to chest consistently. Go figure. I hoop to almost everything – I really love trancelike tibetan singing bowls. I find an internal rhythm in how continuous they are. I’m gonna have to try the bagpipes….
