    Howdy all ^_^.

I am just getting into hooping and I bought a water hoop off the bat because I did not know where to get a regular hoop or how to make my own. (This forum has been very helpful for that.)

The weight in my hoop has- I think- proved to be beneficial for learning how to move with it and seeing tricks slowed down. As of now, I can do corkscrews with both hands, the vortex and am still perfecting the move where the hoop swings round your neck and you alternate swinging your arms up through it; i’m not sure the exact name for it.

I’ve found a couple good videos on YouTube about how to do a move and where to start, but I’m not sure what to try next. I’m working on purchasing a proper hoop but I don’t want to let that stop me from trying more things. What moves did you start with? And can you recommend any good YouTube hooper tutorials or usernames?

Much love and light! Can’t wait to improve.

I started with basic waist hooping. Then moves into hooping in the reverse direction. Once I got both directions down I practice switching directions while in motion. Once I got those basics down I began to teach myself tricks like the vortext like you taught urself.

From there, try knee hooping. Itll be painful at first but it looks nice and thiers some fun stuff you can do when you get basic knee hooping down. I had actually tried learning the kick start (starting from the floor) before learning knee hooping but it was a disaster. It took me months to learn the kick start only because I needed to learn proper knee hooping first.

A fun move you can try which isnt as hard to learn as it is cool to watch is called the escalator. I actually just posted a tutorial on how to learn it yesterday. Its a pretty simple one to get and a very fun way to start the hula hoop for a hoop dance.

Another thing you can try and learn, would be isolations. Their a little challenging at first but thier cool once you get the hang of them. Some hoops look awsome during an isolation. I have a blue and red taped hoop and when I do an isolation the colors blend to a pinkish purple color. So mesmerizing!
I dont have any videos on isolations, but if you want I can try and find some good ones that I used to learn and post em for you.

Their are some amazing tutorials on youtube. Just type in hooping tutorials or anything similar and you will find tons of great videos.

Ooh! I like the escalator start! I’ll have to try it out! It looks rad.

I just started working on doing the same things in the opposite direction as well. I made my very first hoop today! Thanks a lot for the tutorial and the response; very helpful!

And Philo, I saw a few! I’ll have to look deeper. Thanks for reminding me! This site is awesome. <3 ^_^

I would advise learning whatever appeals to you most! There are some tricks I’ve endeavored to learn that I’ve realized just really don’t fit my personal hooping style. It’s a good challenge or learning opportunity, but I learn best when I find moves that inspire me! I like to watch videos and then find tutorials for the specific moves. (It can be a little tricky since there aren’t standard names for each trick!) For me, chest hooping and shoulder hooping were the big ones I wanted to learn, along with arm weaving. It took a lot of practice but now I tend to hoop on my upper body more than my waist! Enjoy!
