I’m looking at Hoopnotica and Troo Hoop segmented hoops. Which would work better for a complete newbie? I tried making a hoop 2 years ago but failed miserably. Also, there was no place to store it in my tiny house. It ended up in the garage where it was eaten by squirrels. The collapsible ones look like my best option.

Is there a “Hooping for Dummies” DVD? I’m challenged when I watch things and try to apply them to my body. That left/right thing throws me.

    HI there!
I saw this question was overlooked, so I hope it’s not too late!

I’d recommend a non-segmented hoop for a beginner. I know you’re short on space, but there’s always under your bed! There are several DVDs out there, but there are also TONS of options online and for free. Start having a look at Caroleeena’s instructionals, for example. http://www.youtube.com/user/Caroleeena

Let us know how it goes!

I started with a full-size beginner Hoopnotica hoop and the DVDs from them. The DVDs are really great for learning, but you can find less expensive hoops elsewhere. Try to see if you can find someone near you who makes them, or look on Etsy. Beginner hoops are usually about 40″ in diameter, made with 125 or 160 psi 3/4-inch tubing, but any hoop maker can help you figure out what size you need if you contact them. And if you don’t want to invest in DVDs there’s plenty of free tutorials on YouTube. Check the site hoop-trix.com for lists and links to tutorials.
