Jimmy Fallon Challenges Michelle Obama to Hula Hoop Contest

As we all know, Michelle Obama is willing to go the extra mile to get kids off the couch with her Let’s Move! campaign. The first lady has hula hooped many times in hopes of inspiring others to do so. When she said she was willing to “make a fool” of herself to get young people in motion, Jimmy Fallon of Late Night with Jimmy Fallon and Saturday Night Live fame took her up on that offer. The late-night TV host host went to the White House to challenge the First Lady herself in a handful of events to determine who was in better shape and when it came down to hula hooping, nobody was more surprised than us to watch Jimmy take Michelle down. Nevertheless, the dynamic duo participated in a series of others events including push-ups, dodge ball, tug-of-war, resulting in a tie going into the all important potato sack race. While Jimmy scored at hooping, who ultimately won the fitness challenge? Win or lose Jimmy said he had a phenomenal time facing off with the first lady. “Michelle Obama is the coolest,” he said. Hoop Mandala Project

The Hoop Mandala Project created the world’s first large-scale LED hoop mandalas. The project was a collaboration between Buddhabass productions, Hoopcamp 2011, Merlin of psihoops.com and the Pema Osel Ling Buddhist monastery. The project took place on Saturday night at Hoopcamp in the Santa Cruz mountains of California. A Hooping.org Video of the Day.

LA Hoopers: Hooperbowl Sunday II

New Zealand’s First Hoop Gathering

New Zealand HoopFest is spinning into Wellington soon and it’s the first hoop gathering in kiwi country. Stuff reports that Karori woman Claire French is planning the inaugural three-day festival in Lower Hutt starting on February 17th. “I’m trying to show a lot of different styles so people who have never hula hooped before can get involved,” she said. “There will be workshops on burlesque hooping, hoop yoga and Native American hooping.” French became interested in hooping about five years ago when a friend encouraged her to try it. As well as being fun, hooping was very good exercise, she said. “I used to be double the size I am now. It’s a fun way to exercise and tone up. It doesn’t feel like you’re slogging yourself out in the gym. You can put some tunes on and give it a go.” Want more info? Check out the website and Facebook event page.

What they got instead was footage of an unknown hooper spinning things up and now, a little over two months later, their quest to track them down now is starting to burn up the internet.
