Digitalis

In the Orland Park local edition of The Chicago Tribune, Digitalis is putting Hooping Idol on the map. “Hooping is a term for hula hooping with specialized hoops. There are more and more people hooping all over America and around the world. Many of the well-known hoopers in America reside in California, however, we have one right here in Orland Park. Twenty-year-old Jessica Davis – stage name, Digitalis – has made the cut and is a contestant in the worldwide “Hooping Idol” competition going on right now. Hooping Idol mimic’s the popular show “America Idol” in structure, but instead of a singing competition, it is a hooping video competition that is attracting many online followers. Other contestants are from as far away as New Zealand and England. Jessica just completed week two which was a disco theme. Watch her clips & follow the competition on Hooping.org and you will see why.”

Keith Moore

Keith Moore: Before and After

Remember our recent story about Jen Moore losing 143 pounds hooping? Well now her husband Keith Moore is in the hooping weight loss spotlight. He’s lost 100 pounds as well and he told The Huffington Post, “I didn’t know what a portion was, I did not know what the right foods were to eat. I wanted to get the best value for my money, so I’d go to a buffet and eat and eat and eat… My doctor told me I was morbidly obese, but for years I didn’t believe him. I was in denial.” Keith’s breaking point finally came when his wife started hooping and losing weight. “I thought, ok, here’s another one of Jen’s wacky ideas, but this time she was absolutely serious.” They teamed up, found a healthier food plan and hooped. Keith said, “Jen and I say we have a ‘condition’ that we will have for the rest of our lives. I regulate myself. When I’m not careful, I can put weight back on very quickly. We don’t eat out anymore. I felt especially horrible after the last time we did. We cook for ourselves and eat healthy, organic food whenever possible. I started losing weight by hooping and took off a ton of pure fat… After I lost an initial 90 pounds or so, I started to think about muscle. I do weight training now, but I still don’t want to be too big. Right now it’s all about maintenance. I never feel deprived; I feel very satisfied.” Keith is now a Hoopnotica instructor and is on his way to getting a degree in health/exercise science, noting, “I want to use my newfound love to pay it forward — spread the hoop love and healthy living!” He lives in Rochester, New York, USA.

Carol "Hoop Sistah" Turner

Carol “Hoop Sistah” Turner is spreading the news that hooping is healing. She told The Franklin Sun Journal, “It may be thought of as a children’s toy, but it can be very healing. Everyone can use it. Turner has been teaching a six-week class offered through Mt. Blue Regional School District Adult and Community Education called Hooping To Heal. Turner explained that hooping “heals the mind, body and soul. It builds core strength, reduces stress, brings joy and laughter and helps clear the mind.” And Turner should know having personally healed her life through hooping. After going through some traumatic life changes and needing to feel better, she gave hooping a spin. “It became a healing tool,” she explained. And now having lost 50 pounds and having hooped her way into becoming more confident and grounded, she told the paper, “At 49, I’m in the best shape of my life.” Franklin Sun Journal
