Leg Hooping Reversals
Sugar Magnolia demonstrates leg hooping reversals. She says, "First, you need to be able to hoop around your legs in both directions. Second, you need to be able to bring one leg out and back in - so that you have the timing down. Third, once you have one leg out, place your foot on the ground and nudge the hoop the opposite way with your thigh, then bring your leg back in. And there you have it!" Hoop Illusion II
Alaskan Amy showed us how to do something she calls The Illusion awhile back. Well she's at it again with a simpler version for the rest of us. "It seems a bit easier since there's only one 360 degree turn, as opposed to two in the first version. Take time to stretch, especially the hamstrings! To start: get the hoop rotating vertically in front of you. A 'round-house' type kick up & over the hoop starts the first 180 degrees. While the leg is up, transfer hoop to the opposite hand. By the time the kicking leg is closest to the ground, you should be facing backwards. The leg continues back up in the second 180 degrees, transferring the hoop between the legs behind the body. Leg continues back and down. It is sort of a big ol' circle kick spin with two passes under the kicking leg." Watching the video really helps bring it all together too. Entrances and Exits
Sugar Magnolia's first two demonstrations of these entrances and exits are for lefties, the second two are for righties. Explaining for righties she notes, "The first part requires you to swing the hoop behind your head using your right hand with your arm extended straight up, and stop where your neck and left shoulder meet, then let the hoop trickle down till you can grab it again with your right hand and take your left leg out. The second part launches the hoop above your head. It is important that your left arm is raised and bent, ready to grab the hoop when it comes. Pull the hoop 90-180 degrees behind you to wind it up, then thrust it to the left, raising you left leg for the bottom of the hoop to go under. And if all goes well the hoop should escalade up to your left hand." She lives in Waterford, Michigan. Published on March 02, 2009 | LINK | Comments (4)
