Ocean Beach Fire Hoopers Hit With Fines
Fire hoopers at Ocean Beach in San Diego, California, recently found themselves in trouble with the law. The Ocean Beach Rag reports, "Four women with hula-hoops all received tickets and fines from an Officer R. Schultz. The women in question are professionals, and were practicing for an upcoming event. Their hula-hoops were on fire, and they had two safety people ready at either end of the practice. They were each given a ticket for “uncontrolled fire, fire-throwing, or walking on fire." While it may not sound that disturbing, $2500 in fines certainly is. Full story: OB Rag

I understand this situation completely! I have been a hooper for many many years now and in 2006 I got my first fire hoop and was practicing in my own backyard and the police came to my house and told me I was in violation of city law and that I was within city limits and could be fined!!
So I had to go to the courthouse and do some investigation work only to find out that I could not only be fined but thrown in jail for fire hooping anywhere in the story county area!!!
I highly recommend anyone getting into fire hooping to go and find out the details in your state and go accordingly. I would hate to get the wrong idea out there about our shared passion!! Non hoopers may see it as endangering others and put a damper on our positive community!
Much luck~

Hang on, I have to scrape my chin off the floor before I can comment. The beach has got to be the safest place for fire practice (besides a pool). You drop your fire in the wet sand and out it goes. I hope you guys fight and win.
