Making a Hoop in Argentina

her hoopRobin Marie, originally from New York, writes, "I've been on a mission to find a hula hoop here in Argentina. It's a great way to exercise, and I really miss my hoop back home! It's not a very common item here in Argentina, so I was worried that I wouldn't be able to find the materials or a pre-fab hoop to buy. Wouldn't you know that one block from my house there's a hardware store with everything I needed for about $5 US?! The kindly man in the hardware store really didn't understand what was going on, but he was very nice and helpful and interested in learning what I was doing. Broken Spanish be damned, we're makin' friends! Thanks for all your help Fernando Photos here. Full post: Little Bird, Big World

Hey! I had the same problem down there in Argentina!, I'm from Mexico, and spent there a year. I'm glad to hear you found your material, but if you ever need to find one already made, and are in Buenos Aires, try at a sportstore t 9 de julio, I bought mine there after I looked for it all through the city. it is like 11 blocks from the obelisco. ask for the UADE, universidad argentina de la empresa, and if you follow nueve de julio from UADE, to the obelisco, you'll find it. they sell common orange hoops, but I have found the size and material are excellent to cover with tape. good luck!

  Track of the Week

Our two tracks for the week start off with Cosmic Cowboys and their new release "One Last Whisper." We're especially loving the Hiro Remix which is why we've added it to the Hoop Sounds iPod below. Check it out and other mixes and download yours on iTunes by clicking:

Cosmic Cowboys - One Last Whisper EP - One Last Whisper

Next we cool things down with a track for some dreamier hooping. The track is called "Ruby" from the new release from Ali Farka Touré & Toumani Diabaté of Mali. We think you're going to like it. Give it a listen on the iPod and get your copy on iTunes by clicking:
