video of the day

This weekend I was privileged enough to meet Deanne of HoopLovers.com at Hoop Camp 2008. Here she is with the other Tokyo Hoop Stars enticing everyone in Japan to join the love revolution.

trick of the week

This week's hoop trick is a foot interception that comes to us from Crissy Gugler of Santa Clara, California. She notes, "Corby calls this the 'Beckham Catch', which I think sounds pretty nifty."

track of the week

thievery corporation: mandala

This week's hoop track is from the new release by Thievery Corporation and it's called "Mandala" from the new album "Radio Retaliation." Merriam-Webster defines "Mandala" as "a Hindu or Buddhist graphic symbol of the universe ; specifically : a circle enclosing a square with a deity on each side that is used chiefly as an aid to meditation." Featuring the stylings of Anoushka Shankar, I can't help but think they wrote this specifically for us to hoop to. Check it out in our Hoop Sounds listening station up top, and listen to and download the other tracks from the new album on iTunes by clicking:

HoopTokyo Releases Hoop Book DVD Set in Japan

hoop book hooptokyo HoopTokyo has released their HoopExercise book & DVD set. Justin and Mario have been spreading the news about hoopdance in Japan since May 2007 and now they're doing it in written form with a DVD packaged inside the book. Justin told Hooping.org, "We had a chance to be given by an editor from the publisher to publish a HoopFitness book. We decided to coordinate and under Mario's supervision all about this fitness book for a beginner's beginner. The work was very much interested and so much fun, we enjoyed it. This one could be the very first hoopfitness book and DVD set in Japan." it's a good deal. I found it for sale on Amazon Japan. See photos from the making of this project below:

I asked them what to expect from the DVD and he explained, "Mario has been creating some workouts for Japanese and Asian. He originated with warming up included stretch, cool down and a detox massage after a lesson as we are therapists of Watto Po Thai traditional massage. Part 1 is for warming up with stretch, Part 2 is for a beginner's beginner who can hardly hoop on the waist, you know a beginner. Part 3 is for the certain moves with hoop rotating. such as walking and hand clapping simultaneously and 10 more moves to work out. Part 4 is for detox massage after exercise for avoiding fatigue. There's also a hoopdance performance because we want to do our hoopdance DVD next."
