Hooping Names Directory
Hooping.org Magazine's Hooping Names Directory is our community service reference point for those seeking to become hoop performers and/or open hooping businesses. The goal is to prevent two hoopers, hoop businesses, or hoop troupes from winding up with the same name. Such a list is based on a precedent already set by the burlesque and roller derby communities which, like hooping, have also blown up in recent years.
While listing yourself in the Hooping Names Directory can't offer legal protection, it's a community-based way for hoop performers to say, "Hi! I'm here" and for new hoop lovers to see what's come before them. It's our hope that you will honor our community by not choosing a name that is the same, or even confusingly similar, to something that already exists.
Please add your hooping name along with a web site link by leaving your information in the comment area below. The comment section to do so is located at the bottom of this page. If you do not have a hooping related web site, a tribe.net profile or myspace page or such will suffice. This info is needed so we can check to see if names are still in use in the future and so someone can contact you should there ever be a conflict. If you are here for the first time and you see that a name you are using is already on the list contact that person directly and let them know so the two of you can figure it out. Thank you for taking part in helping to create a community where we can all grow and prosper.

Thank you so much, Philo. Yes, this is much easier than yahoo -- and much easier to find. I never wanted to go through identity conflict, and I really wish it never happened. It creates stress for both the person who has years invested in an identity ... and for the person who just launched it. I think this list will be so helpful to hoopers who are starting businesses and taking on performance identities. It's such a great search tool. And because the names of existing hoopers will now be extremely clear, I hope that up and coming hoopers will be respectful of who is *already* out there when choosing a name.

Thank you for helping those of us who have started businesses in the Hooping Industry. Some of us have been challenged by others claiming the right to take over a name. According to the legal firm that represents me, "The use of a Trademark/Name is the property of the first user." For many of us it is easy to identify who is the first user from Tribe and Myspace websites as well as dozens of assorted other ways such as publicity in publications.
For those unsure of their names, Hooping.org magazine is a very useful tool to regulate names already being used in the industry.
