trick of the week

We've had questions lately about bringing the hoop up from your knees to your waist. SaFire in Edmonton, Alberta, explains how it's done. Got a hoop trick you'd like to share? Film it and let us know!

track of the week

Morgan Page: The Longest Road (Deadmau5 Remix)

This week's hoop track is by DJ/Producer Morgan Page featuring vocals by Lissie and it's called "The Longest Road." We're particularly loving the Deadmau5 Remix, so much so that we've added it up top to our listening station. And, as always, you can also hear it and check out other mixes and even download it for yourself on iTunes by clicking:

Across The Back Roll

Caroleeena, a Hoopies Winner this year, gives you a tutorial on how to do the "Across The Back Roll." She lives in Raleigh, North Carolina.

hi
great video
? - does size matter?
no really does size of the hoop and width of the hoop matter.
I am a new hooper and have my own built out of irrigation pipe, but it comes to about my chest is that too big?
thanks

hello firefly,

caroleeena will probably post an answer to you as well on the site. i removed your email address from the posting because posting your email on a webpage is an open invitation for spam overload. the robots scan it and you'll be over run with it.

does size matter? different tricks can be easier with different hoops. everybody is different too. generally speaking though, yes, size does matter and if you're trying to roll it across your back and catch it and it's a little too big or too heavy for you to do that comfortably, then you might want to try going a little smaller.

generally speaking the ideal hoop size is somewhere between your navel and your solar plexus/sternum. and if you're really thin, maybe closer to the navel. or if you're on the thicker waisted size, maybe higher. a good idea guesstimate would be the halfway mark. me, i started wth a big hoop that hit me in the middle of my chest and loved it. now i'm hooping with one just above my navel. bigger is easier to start with, but not necessarily so for certain tricks.

Great answer Philo. Yes, size does matter. I use 100 psi hoop material, which is on the light size, and I use about a 40-inch hoop though I did learn this trick with a much rounder AND heavier hoop, so it is possible. It's just easier with a lighter hoop.

Good luck!

Great video. I had never tried this trick until this morning and, while I can't say I've mastered it, I CAN do it. Thanks. Keep up the good work.
