Richard Knerr, Wham-o Co-Founder, Has Died
Richard Knerr has passed at the age of 82 and he'll be remembered as the Co-Founder of Wham-o. In 1948 he started the company with his long time friend Arthur "Spud" Melin who passed in 2002. The pair made a name for themselves popularizing the hula-hoop in the 1950's, as well as the Frisbee and other toy classics. Knerr suffered a stroke at his home in Arcadia, California. "If Spud and I had to say what we contributed, it was fun," Knerr told the Times in 1994. "But I think this country gave us more than we gave it. It gave us the opportunity to do it."
