Miss Hailyn Hoops hoops to the sounds of Peaceblaster at home in Indianapolis, Indiana.

trick of the week

We've had questions lately about bringing the hoop up from your knees to your waist. SaFire in Edmonton, Alberta, explains how it's done. Got a hoop trick you'd like to share? Film it and let us know!

track of the week

Morgan Page: The Longest Road (Deadmau5 Remix)

This week's hoop track is by DJ/Producer Morgan Page featuring vocals by Lissie and it's called "The Longest Road." We're particularly loving the Deadmau5 Remix, so much so that we've added it up top to our listening station. And, as always, you can also hear it and check out other mixes and even download it for yourself on iTunes by clicking:

Hoop Sounds

gadjo: so many times Last night after hooping in Dolores Park with some beautiful people, I came home, wandered into the backyard, cranked up the tunes and hooped some more. A few minutes later the Gadjo's So Many Times (Club Mix) came on and I found myself magically transported to that other dimension. I hit the groove and rode it and the beat just kept the world spinning and spinning until I became one with the hoop. God I love that feeling. It got me thinking about my favorite hooping songs, like Arranguez by Sol and Groovejet by DJ Spiller. And it got me thinking about your favorite hoop sounds too. While we may have different tastes, and we may even hoop at different speeds, I want to know - if we were to create the ultimate hooping music compilation right now, what songs would you insist be included on it? Please be specific.

Comments

Ooooo I got one!

Faithless "If lovin you is wrong, I dont wanna be right"

Its slow and has a super funky groove. I love it!!

"Do your thing" by Bassment Jaxx - the sheer joy and bounciness to it, along with the funky beat to shake my shoulders and hips along.. it always moves my hoops :)

A couple months back, we had a thread at the Hooping Tribe on fav music.. any of you link-savvy people wanna add that?

X.

The Superhooper loves the funk. I'll staunchly defend the classics and vote for Stevie Wonder's "Superstition". My hips react to that bass line before I even hear it.

Gift tip: This year, I asked all my friends to put together a mix CD of what they imagined I would want to hoop to (I was hooping for hours a day, and got tired of flipping my vinyl!). It was one of the best birthdays! Not only did I get a lot of new music I might never have encountered, I now have hours and hours of high-energy hooping inspiration. My friends tell me they had a great time making them too!

Cheers!

Just wading through my iTunes, and realized that I already have So Many Times by Gadjo... having already popped my head into the iTunes shop to see if I could download it, teehee!

My favorite hooping tune is "The Whole Hula", but I'm a bit biased, 'cause I co-wrote it! Check out the original video and song at

A new version of the song with a heavier beat is currently in the works, stay tuned...

Ken :)

oh, i love a universe that responds to desire ... i'm so new to hooping and want very much to get some excellent hooping music

any possibility of this site having some sort of list / links / compilation PLUS CDs for sale?

someone mentioned that there'd been a discussion some time ago about favorite music

i'd love to see this info be part of this website

alas, i can offer little technical support or insight on how to do it

jessie

I would totally have to say Keller Williams " I feel in love in a portapotty line" But hooping to anything keller is awesome!

Green Lemon Band! Their blend of reggae inspired conceptual improv jam intergalactic skankin' music is just right to spin me into a different reality! (Selina-Portapotty is my FAV Keller to hoop to!)

Oh, and here's a link to that thread about music on tribe: http://tinyurl.com/84ltx

the two kinds of music i enjoy hooping most to are funk and DnB.

one of my fave songs to hoop to is "Shake Everything You Got" - Maceo Parker, from Life on Planet Groove

unfortunately most of the DnB or other techno i listen to is generally live DJs or remixes and i can't pinpoint a single track that i really enjoy as i don't own very many DJ albums. i do have some really great Madonna dance remixes though that i think would be fun to include in a compliation. Philo, i'll burn you a copy.

Aphrodite - Q-Flutes

this may be overkill, but the following is the HOOP/FIRE DANCE playlist from my ipod.
somebody needs to remix aretha franklin's rock steady at a higher tempo - that song was made for hooping, just too slow.

Hooping and String Cheese go together like, well, you all know... But if I had to pick one song it would be "Mouna Boa". Then again they also do a mean rendition of "Ring of Fire" which has become sort of a hooping anthem.

I'm also into just about anything that breaks or has a funky bassline or both. =o)

I mean FIANCE!

"Hunter" (Gus Gus remix) by Bjork - electro-tribal

ah yes - Bjork. Army of Me is a good song for everything, including hooping. both versions, but especially the remix version on Telegram.

try alittle prodigy....it gets you goin!

dj cheb i sabbah

I would really enjoy hooping to dub/reggae. While I can't recommend an entire hoopable album, these are some songs I like:

the upsetters-Croaking Lizard
jah lion-Hay Fever (rasta version of 'fever')
tanya stephens-We a lead, It's a pity
new age steppers- Observe Life
from the "Studio One Dub" album-
hooligan, rastaman version, chase them version
ari up- Baby Mother,Me Done, Kill Em with Love (Ari Up is the former lead singer of the Slits-her solo album is amazing!)
dawn penn-no, no, no (there are numerous remixed versions of this song)
