Hooping Idol 6 Spins The News
by Philo Hagen
With the season finale of Hooping Idol 6 rolling in this week, we can hardly wait to share with you all what our final three competitors have spun up for it. Who will be our next Hooping Idol and spin away with our Hooping Idol 6 Ultimate Prize Package? We’ll be finding out later this week, but over the course of the season Hooping Idol has been spinning the news above and beyond Hooping.org too.
Coelti of Chicago, Illinois, USA, spun her way onto Chicago’s Fox 32 News. “Hula hooping is not just for kids anymore – it’s an art form,” they explained, “Now, hoopers around the [world] are competing for the title of Hooping Idol. One of those competing hoopers is local Chicagoan Coelti Eythay.”
Coelti kicked off the season at the top of the leader board spinning up some truly amazing videos this season. She was unfortunately able to survive the cut of Horror Week.
Kat “Hoop Circles” Kierans did Kamloops, British Columbia, Canada, proud in the hooping video competition. “Kat Kierans is Kamloops’ first hooper star,” reports KamloopsThisWeek.com. “The 24-year-old South Kamloops secondary graduate was one of… 21 who qualified for the online show. She made it to the final seven, but was eliminated last week, unable to escape the Horror Week round.”
Kierans told Marty Hastings she recently celebrated her third hoopiversary and she remembers well her introduction to the activity at Riverside Park.
“Six months prior, I had torn my ACL and MCL in a skiing accident and I was like, what do I do now? I can’t dance ballet anymore. My friend handed me a hula hoop. As soon as he taught me one trick, I was hooked.” Kierans was ranked fourth among the remaining seven hoopers after the judges’ Horror Week voting, but was among the two eliminated when the online ballot boxes closed. “I was disappointed, but I knew I was up against some pretty awesome people,” Kierans said. “It is what it is. I was happy I made it as far as I did. I’m really proud of myself.”
We’re super proud of her too, as we are of final five finalist Jennifer Dennehy. GoErie.com reported that the Erie, Pennsylvania, based hooping artist was spinning things up on Hooping Idol this season too. “The online talent show pits participants against each other in videos set to weekly themes. Each video is published on YouTube or Vimeo for public voting and reviewed by a panel of judges, with some finalists eliminated each week. Dennehy is among five people remaining from the original field of 21.” Dennehy made her departure following Performance Week.
If you haven’t been following our sensational sixth season, it’s a great time to get all caught up before the season finale. Things kicked off with our initial casting call. We then introduced you to our 21 contestants for season 6. For week one our finalists all spun up something groovy for Sixties Week. After the judges scores and the public vote 6 were eliminated. Then the remaining 15 all hit the clubs for EDM Week and in the end 5 more were sent home. We threw everybody a curve ball for week three, Opera Week, and 3 more were sent home. Things got scary for week 4 when our remaining seven spun up something spooky for Horror Week and 2 more were eliminated. Last week our final five all spun up exciting performances for Performance Week, all to the exact same song – and two more were eliminated. Who will be our next Hooping Idol? We’ll be finding that out soon enough. Stay tuned.
