Hooping Idol 6 Performance Week What’s next for our remaining Hooping Idol finalists? If you’ve seen our previous seasons of Hooping Idol, then you already know. Yep, it’s Performance Week on Hooping Idol 6. Our final five will all be hooping to the same exact soundtrack and will all be sharing single-shot unedited videos of their performances. The challenge: perform in front of real live human beings, not just in front of a video camera. They’ll all be needing to find an audience of at least ten people to perform in front of – or create one of their own.

Those that hoop professionally know you don’t always have control over what music you’ll be performing to. Maybe you’ll be put on stage with a particular band or DJ. Maybe that wedding that hired you wants to see you hoop dance to their special song. Whatever the music ends up being though, you’ve gotta make it work! So to put that little extra reality spin on Hooping Idol 6 Performance Week, all of our finalists will imagine that they have been hired to perform with the band at a music festival in California. That band is none other than Tropo.

Tropo, otherwise known as Tyson Leonard, Grant Leonard and Adam Kapuscinski, are inspired by the mosaic of human experience. Tropo combines live instruments with electronic dance music to create an eclectic sound and connected-space. Tropo genre-splices orchestral with tribal, house with jazz, and blues with bass into a dance that is both heard and felt.

These three have played live at Burning Man, Sonic Bloom, Lightning in a Bottle, Lucidity; they’ve performed at Hoopcamp, have toured with Eoto, and appeared alongside the likes of Beats Antique, Random Rab, David Starfire and Keller Williams. Grant Leonard is not only a member of Tropo, he’s also a truly incredible hooper in his own right. That’s why we’re so excited to have Tropo with us as guest judges for Hooping Idol 6 Performance Week. They know their music, and they know hooping too. Their brand new album, Blue Mountain, drops this weekend and a track from it will be the soundtrack for all of our Hooping Idol 6 Performance Week submissions.

tropobluemountain Here’s what our final five need to do:

1) Read Hooping.org’s Ten Easy Ways to Improve Your Hooping Video again. Every year people forget these very things when it comes to their performance videos and wind up costing themselves some very valuable points.

2) Create a Hooping Idol Performance Week video of an unedited live performance with at least ten audience members. You can add additional content at the beginning or end, but the actual performance must not contain any editing whatsoever. All Performance Week videos must be filmed with the video camera acting as a non-moving member of the audience, preferably one with a front row seat. Whatever takes place during your performance, we all want to see it just as if we were sitting right there in the audience with everyone else.

3) Post your video on YouTube and Vimeo on or before Sunday, June 5th, at 11:59 pm PST. We’re giving you extra time to help facilitate the best performance week submissions yet. Use that time wisely.

4) Copy your YouTube and Vimeo video link urls and email them to hoopingidol@gmail.com. That’s it!

Have fun Hooping Idol 6 Contenders, but remember – make it count. At the end of Performance Week two more will be eliminated and the final three will be going on to our season six finale and a shot at the Ultimate Hooping Idol Prize Package. Happy hooping everybody!
