Curvy Hooper Challenge 2014: Our Winners

Curvy Hoopers Challenge by Philo Hagen

Earlier this year we put out a call to all of the curvy hoopers out there to turn on their video cameras, step inside their hoops and spin it up for greater curvy hooper visibility. Yay! Our quest to change the online climate for plus size hoopers was officially underway and so many hotties shared their gorgeous hooping awesomeness online that we can’t even begin to share them all with you. How cool is that? Yes, you rocked our world and we couldn’t be more proud of and grateful for each and every one of you. Are you ready to see some of them in action? Good, because we can’t wait!

There was a little extra added incentive to the challenge as well, some prizes to give away. One lucky hooper would spin away with an “Everything But The Bed” pass to Hottie Hoop Camp 2014, the body-friendly hoop gathering taking place this year in Surfside Beach, Texas, USA, on March 27-30, 2014. Hottie Hoop Camp is hosted by Blythe TwoSisters and Rowan TwoSisters of Punk Rock Hoops and we thank them for their amazing generosity. A first runner up would also receive a brand new custom-made glamour hoop from Hoop Mamas too. So who are our winners? Answer: Everyone who participated this year!

Our whole community gives thanks to these hoopers for helping us ensure hooping represents and is inclusive of everyone. And in that same spirit Hottie Hoop Camp has decided to give everyone who participated in the challenge a $100 discount on registration this year (use coupon code: Hooping.orgCurvyContestant) so yay everybody! You’re all winners in our book and we love and salute each and every one of you! As for the incentives, it’s time to present our most noteworthy Curvy Hooper Video Challenge videos and some of our submission favorites and we whole heartedly invite everyone to give all of these amazing women a whole lot of love and support in our comments, on their pages and more.

Our winner of the “Everything But The Bed” pass for Hottie Hoop Camp 2014 goes to Stephanie Payne of Las Vegas, Nevada, USA. Soundtrack: “Do My Thing (featuring Janelle Monae) by Estelle (on iTunes).

We ended up having a tie for our first runner up prize too – so we’re giving away not one brand new custom-made glamour hoop from Hoop Mamas, but two! YAY!

Our first glamour hoop is going to Savannah Sassdragon of Corpus Christi, Texas, USA. Soundtrack: “Body Love (Part 2)” by Mary Lambert (on iTunes).

And our second glamour hoop is going to Becki Harrington-Davis who made her very first hooping video for the challenge, and it’s her second hoopiversary! She lives in Littleton, Massachusetts, USA. Soundtrack: “After The Winter” by Lenka (on iTunes).

We wish we could share all the rest of the submissions with you too, but if we did this page would never load, so here are a few more of our favorites. Please enjoy and celebrate these beautiful hoopers!

Natasha Mae. Soundtrack: “Crystallize” by Lindsay Sterling (on iTunes).

Shannon Herrington of Nicholasville, Tennesee, USA. Soundtrack: “Brave” by Sara Bareilles (on iTunes).

And last, and certainly not least, our Curvy Hooper Video Challenge winner for 2011, Jennifer “Loop D Lu” Wagner, told us, “Putting myself out there in the first Curvy Hoopers Video Challenge was really one of the most wonderful things I have ever done. I was petrified to do it and had all but talked myself out of it. Once I posted it I was completely overwhelmed with joy when I received so much great feedback and support from other hoopers. It was a turning point for me that boosted my confidence in hooping and my life in general. So in gratitude and hopefully to encourage others to continue to share themselves all year long, I wanted to make a special video too.” So here she is, hooping it up with Cosmic Rae.

We want to send a whole lot of hoop love to everybody who rose to the challenge this year and invite you to do so as well so everybody feels celebrated. You’re all amazing. Thanks everybody for participating and if we all keep making awesome hooping videos like these and keep right on representing, there won’t even be a need for a challenge like this next year. So go for it. If you need video pointers check out our Ten Easy Ways to Improve Your Hooping Video and we can’t wait to see more from everyone all year long. Thank you for representing and for sharing the hoop love! Happy hooping everybody!
