New Year 30/30 Hooping Challenge

30-30 [Hooping.org columnist Abby Schwartz is hooping in the new year and invites you to join us.]

by Abby Schwartz

Don’t you just love the clean slate feeling of January 1st coming around again, when all of our New Year’s resolutions feel achievable? Every year at this time, I put the same items on my to-do list. Exercise regularly, take time to meditate, and achieve better balance in my life. The fact that I have to repeat them means that my methods may not be working, but this year I have Hooping.org’s New Year 30/30 Hooping Challenge to help with all three and keep me on track.

Those of us who have been fans of this site for several years are familiar with the 30/30 Challenge. Imitated by many, it all started here. The basic premise is this: make a public commitment to hooping at least 30 minutes a day, for 30 consecutive days in January. When you are finished each day post a comment about your daily hooping experience, however brief or detailed, on the post for the corresponding day on Hooping.org’s Facebook Page. Why? So we all have accountability to one another and can support each other along the way. A new challenge post will go up on Hooping.org’s Facebook Page each day around midnight PST and it all starts tomorrow on New Years Day so spread the word! And because January has 31 days those who celebrate a little too hard to join us on Tuesday can begin on January 2nd, and those of us who start on New Years Day, like me, will have one wild-card day of rest to use at our discretion if we need it.

My own reasons and goals? I am taking the Challenge because I have let my personal well-being fall to the bottom of my priority list. Making a public commitment to this Challenge will help me follow through. I hope that by the end of this month, I will have a tighter, slimmer mid-section, drop 5 pounds, and achieve a renewed commitment to daily exercise and me-time. Your reasons and goals may include losing the holiday weight gain, losing fat and gaining muscle tone, increasing your energy level, improving your mood, developing new hoop skills and learning new moves, deepening your connection to Source, have a greater connection with the community and more. So, are you with me? Awesome!

And to motivate you even more we’ve got a little prize incentive for you too. At the end of the challenge we will be doing a drawing and one lucky hooper will receive a Barnes & Noble Gift Card and a super soft and expandable hoop cover carrier. Of course everyone is going to win just by participating, we’ll all be winners in 2013, but to be eligible for the drawing, you must:

1) Register by posting your intention to complete the New Year 30/30 challenge below in the comments below.
2) Hoop for a minimum of 30 minutes during each day of the challenge.
3) Post about your daily hooping experience on the corresponding post for that day on Hooping.org’s Facebook Page. At the end all who completed the challenge will be entered into a random drawing and a winner will be announced.

I can’t wait to get started and I am looking forward to being a part of this with you all. Good luck everyone and here’s to all of us having a very healthy, happy and hoopy new year!

Here goes! I tried this last year, and it was awesome! Things were going great until I got sick and fell off the wagon. I’m going to try to hang on better this time. :) Hoopy 2013!

The start of 30/30 2012 is when I picked up my first hoop! Of course I will celebrate this one year hoopiversary milestone with another 30/30. I can’t wait!

I’m in, too. I came down with a nasty bug a couple of days ago but I know I can do some gentle hooping to get started. I’ve done one 30/30 Challenge successfully, and it felt like a huge accomplishment. I have since failed to complete the others I started. However, this is a New Year and a new day and I am so ready to spin some fresh energy into my life.
