For one of the best and most heart warming television segments we’ve ever seen about hooping, we take you to Japan. On “Night Scoop”, a show where people write in to ask for help with their problems, Yamamoto and Nakamoto are two women struggling with obesity. The younger woman and the grandmother wrote in to enlist the help of Night Scoop in helping them learn how to hula hoop so that they could lose weight.
First they try hula hooping on their own with small hoops and fail. Then they visit a kindergarten to enlist help from children before looking for someone overweight in the neighborhood who can do it to prove to them that it can be done. Finally, they connect with Mami Uchida of Hoolp who finally gives them larger handmade hoops and teaches them what to do. Their goal: to each be able to keep the hoop spinning ten times around their waist. Thanks to Tink of Spin Matsuri for her translation assistance.
That was a great journey to watch
