Who doesn’t love to hoop in any weather? Well the people of Coopersville, Michigan, proved just that as they rallied in the rain in an attempt to break the world record for the number of people dancing with a hula hoop. The Official Guinness World Record is held by Kensington Public School in Sydney, Australia, where they had 637 people completing the feat. WZZM reports that hundreds showed up to Bronco Stadium anyway, but they fell short with 345 participants braving the rain to turn the stadium into “Hoopersville”. Organizer Catherine Meintsman said, “Even the weather isn’t going to bring us down because we’re going to give it the old Coopersville try.” After all, what hooper doesn’t enjoy having fun with their hoop even when things aren’t going quite as planned? Coopersville isn’t going to give up on reaching their goal of 1000 either. The superintendent of Coopersville community schools has given the green light for another attempt this fall.
