Elkie Brooks is an English singer who started off as vocalist with Vinegar Joe and went on to gain even bigger success as a solo artist. Twice nominated as top female singer in the Brit Awards, the “British Queen of Blues” is letting people know Grace Jones isn’t the only 60-something singer who is keeping in shape by spinning things up. Brooks, age 67, told The Express, “I could give
Grace Jones a run for her money – she’s wonderful. I hula every morning, a couple of hundred on this side, a couple of hundred on this one.” She’s also been practicing the Japanese martial art of aikido for 20 years, has no interest in retiring and still performs up to 60 gigs a year. “I’m not slowing down any time soon. I’m singing better now than I did 20 years ago.”
