Studio Booya recently invited hoopers to Loring Park in Minneapolis, Minnesota, in an attempt to set a new Guinness World Record for the most people hula hooping in the same location. The previous record was set in Taipei, Taiwan, last August, when 2,946 people all hooped simultaneously for three minutes. Studio Booya’s goal was to gather 5000 participants. Organizer Gina Kellogg-Soleil told Twin Cities Metro at the time, “We want to bring this Community together. Not just to break a world record, but to create something more. The point is to bring the community together to laugh and feel joy; to experience it together… The world has been a pretty dark place lately. People are tired and exhausted. It’s our mission to bring back that light and joy that has been missing.” Although they weren’t able to break the world record, hundreds of hoopers did show up and plenty of fun was had by all.
