Joshua Oates: Primadonna Versions

Joshua Oates brings us an experiment in multiple self-recordings of hoop dance: “I record myself hooping and dancing all the time, and it’s interesting to see how when I dance to the same song over and over, how my body, in a sense, dances with itself. My body teaches itself to do the same moves at certain parts of songs or react to it in similar ways, and when I juxtapose these images of this with one another, a certain choreography appears.” He lives in Purchase, New York, USA. Soundtrack: “Primadonna” by Marina and The Diamonds (on iTunes).

Wow, this is wild and kinda tripping me out, giving me chills. Makes me think about what it would look like if I could see my practices in my room all overlapping…a ghosting of energy and movement looping through time.

Really interesting idea! Double exposure videos must teach you a lot about your practice. It was really cool to watch. Joshua, you have a cool, graceful style. Keep posting, please!
