Angela Mahoney Gets Toronto Hooping
Angela Mahoney has brought a hula hoop fitness class to the Sugarfoot fitness dance studio and now she has Toronto twirling in their hoops. A hip hop dancer who performed with Katy Perry at the 2010 MuchMusic Video Awards, Angela uses the hoop to give her students a cardiovascular workout – jumping in and out of the hoop, lifting the hoop while doing V-sits, and planking around the hoop to the sounds of New Kids on the Block and other nostalgic dance hits. Student Kristen Woods said, “You expect to be just swinging the hoop around your hips, but it’s intense. I hate the gym and I’m not a dancer, but with this class you’re having fun and you still get a workout.” Studio co-owner Lisa Mitchell told The Globe and Mail that when the hoop drops, “You’re basically doing a squat each time you pick it up.” What did reporter Maureen Halushak think of her first hooping class? She writes, “It’s fair to say I have a new-found respect for the hoop. The class involved significantly more cardio than I had anticipated, and the novelty of the moves – not to mention the music – distracted me from the fact that I was also performing the most abominable of exercises: abdominal work.”

I think this is a great exercise. I would do it, but damn, I am just too big at the moment. lol If they make HUGE hula hoops, I would consider this an exercise to partake in.
They make huge hula hoops Robert. In fact the bigger they are, the easier they typically are to use.
