The Hooping Life Spins Up Maine and More

The Hooping LifeThe Hooping Life rolls into Portland, Maine, this Sunday with a film screening, performances and a celebration hoop jam at Mayo Street Arts. “It’s about these fantastic hoopers from all around the world,” Jennifer Raymond told the Portland Press Tribune. Raymond is new to hooping. She got hooked on it at the 2010 Nateva Music Festival in Maine and now teaches hooping classes through Forever Fit and Biddeford Adult Education. She explained, “When I saw the trailers for ‘The Hooping Life’, I really wanted to bring it to Portland, because the hooping scene here is starting to get bigger.” The growing popularity of hooping in Greater Portland explains why Raymond had no problem finding five local hoopers to perform after the screening as well, including Amelia Bedelio, Nedra Dean, Nikki Hunt, Alexis Golubow and Jennifer Bailey. “They are really good, amazing hoopers,” Raymond said. “The purpose for me to bring this was to spread the joy of hooping even more. So I’d love to get newcomers to come experience it.”

If you’re not in Maine, there’s a screening of the film tonight in Charleston, South Carolina and Saturday in St. Louis, Missouri. On April 19th the film screens in Pittsburgh and you can see it on April 29th in Columbus, Ohio. Want to bring The Hooping Life to your town? Here’s how.
