Hoopie Awards 2012: Our Winners

Hoopie Awards 2012

It’s time to announce the winners of the Fifth Annual Hoopie Awards, although all of our nominees are winners in our book. Preliminary nominations were open the first week of January and those results were then tabulated and presented to 35 randomly selected hoopers who made themselves available to be of service on their original nomination ballot. Literally drawn out of hat, these panelists reviewed all of your submissions and made their top five selections in each category, resulting in our official nominated finalists. 2011 was a truly dynamic year for hooping and as we’ve grown and evolved, so did the awards with the addition of three new awards this year: Hoop Event, Youth Hooper and the start of our new Hooper Hall of Fame Award.

We’d like to thank everyone who participated in the celebration this year with an extra special thanks to by Annie O’Keefe of World Hoop Day and Kristen “Tink” McQuillin of the World Hoop Day Dance who took on the responsibility this year of validating your computerized vote counts. With thousands of votes cast this year Tink said, “I could literally see all the admiration for the award nominees as I audited the votes. I’m so glad to be part of this caring and active community.” Annie agreed noting, “”The hooping community continually amazes me with who they are, what they produce and how fellow hoopers appreciate each other. I am grateful to be included this year and in year’s past. May our peers continually inspire us to be better, do it now and give more today.” Are you ready to find out where the Hoopies are going in our Fifth Annual Hoopie Awards? Without further ado we proudly present your 2012 Hoopie Award Winners:

  3. It took me so long to vote…there was so much talent out there and I tried to watch, see, & research it all! Yikes this is an inspirational & wildly talented community! Blessings and congrats to all nominees, winners and everyone here supporting this. Yay Philo!

  4. Congratulations to all the winners! Happy to see so many wonderful hoopers recognized. And thank you, thank you for the nomination—it was hugely awesome to be considered. 😀

Next year I’d like to see a category for funniest video. I saw so many great, funny hoop videos this year that I think it deserves its own category. Also maybe a category for hoop business of the year (there are so many great businesses out there that we love to work with for our hoop supplies and fixes). The Hoopies are tons of fun. Thanks for all your hard work putting these together, Philo!
