Hula Hooping Brides of Beverly Hills

Brides of Beverly Hills: Hula Hoop Style On Brides of Beverly Hills, the U.S. cable television show on the TLC Network, the latest bride to turn up on an episode is none other than Kit, aka Veronika Goodnight, and as the tagline for the episode states, “It’s going to take a unique dress to fit this circus performer’s dream.” For those of you who may not know the Hoopie Award winning hoopstress who has worked with such names as Britney Spears, Justin Timberlake, TPain, Ludacris, Jessica Biel, and appeared on CSI NY, Jimmy Kimmel Live, as well as in that Budweiser Superbowl commercial, it was a treat to see her on television. Kit tours today with her husband Torin Goodnight, better known as Bird of Prey. So how did this perhaps unlikely pair end up spinning their wedding on television with Renée Strauss? We contacted Kit to find out and get her scoop on the show and finding love.

Hooping.org: So how did you end up on Brides of Beverly Hills?

Kit: Well. Apparently I’m well known in Canada and the producers of the show called saying they heard about me and wanted to have me on the show and learn a little more about my new found love Torin. They weren’t sure if TLC would pick it up, but they told me that it would be all over the Slice network in Canada. I felt maybe it would help mine and Torin’s Bird of Prey/KiT~ performance branding so I agreed to do it. Torin hated me for months for it! LOL

Hooping.org: So how was it being on the show?

Kit: At first it was really exciting. I got to play princess for a day and try on multi-million dollar dresses and they were AMAZING. But it was difficult to film in that the show asked us to be ourselves, but then they would immediately ask us to say something different. At one point during the interviews I had to stop them and in an aggressive tone yell asking, “What do you want?! I’m being myself, but if you want the catty, Beverly Hills bitch, I can play that too. JUST TELL ME WHAT YOU WANT ME TO SAY!” The producers were stunned, and said, no no, just play yourself, we’ll be quiet. LOL I will never forget that.

Hooping.org: So how much of your hooping spun it’s way into the episode?

Kit: I still haven’t seen it! So I don’t really know what they used. The only hooping I did on the show itself was to show Renée how to hula hoop. If anyone has seen the episode and can tell me more I’d love to know too.

Hooping.org: So you and Torn obviously have found love. Any advice for single hoopers out there looking for love?

Kit: I LOVE this question. First, find a couple that you inspire to be. Their love is what inspires you and ultimately will be the love you will manifest or create for yourself. My power couple are my good friends Nick and Zoraya. The way they work together, travel together and love was so inspiring that I felt I would die if I didn’t have that. And the same month that I met Nick and Zoraya was the month I met Torin. 6 days later we were engaged and boom – married. The power of thought and inspiration is a very powerful thing. Be careful what you wish for.

What’s next for Kit and Torin? Well, speaking of their fame in Canada, the newlyweds are on their way there for a Canadian tour with workshops and performances. They live in Santa Barbara, California, USA. And if you’re looking to get married, check out Off Beat Bride, the creation Hooping.org Co-Founder Ariel Meadow Stallings currently helms.

  1. Oh my! My mother called me last night to tell me she’d seen on TV a “hooper trying on wedding dresses with that over-the-top guy who says everything is ‘just fabulous’”…I had no idea the bride in question was Kit…what a great piece!

  2. WOW! Talk about selling out! This is show is the ABSOLUTE worst. The only reason I could of someone of her caliber to be on the show is to further her career. So sad.

    • Wow, way to go on your English. And I didn’t sell out. I was asked to do a TV show about trying on wedding dresses… since I was looking for wedding dresses I agreed to do the show. You are right about one thing, the show is terrible.

    • I am reminded of an interview with Dexter from The Offspring, back in the 90s, when i was a little punk rocker all obsessed with what is and isn’t selling out. The host asked:
“how does it feel to have sold out?” as dexter said:

“Well f*%king excuse me for being successful. I’m sorry there are people out there working really hard in their band and not making it and I landed a fat record contract. I’m sorry that I’m such an asshole for looking over my body of work and saying you know what it kind of sucks… lets work on our sound… we worked our asses off and I really like what we’re doing now and… OMG other people do too!!!! I’m so f*%king sorry that I’m succeeding…”

You know what, some of us are performers. I dont’ know what you do for food and lodging, but if you are on a career track and you have an opportunity to try something, that fits in that career track, mind you Kit is a SAG actor and a bad ass performer. Torin is a seriously good up and coming DJ/Producer. We work by publicity, and something like this is a good way to get noticed by more people. We also are human and periodically do things for the hell of it. I don’t watch tv.. have not for years and yet ended up on a reality tv show for the hell of it. It was hilarious. I’d never even seen it and only watched it to see our spot…

I don’t think you can possibly imagine that ANY of us are getting rich off our performance art. If you are going to be a working artist of any type you have to SELL your art… If you can sell it enough or it starts to get a higher market-value, then you get to continue doing it. There is also a difference between what I do solidly for me as pure expression, and what I do when I’m in front of a paying client. They don’t want the same thing. Is that selling out? Or is it me giving my customer what they want, which is happy guests who had a good time. Think a bit before you mouth off about what is and isn’t selling out.

    • I also liked that you are too cowardly to actually put your name up there… Very easy to sit alone in your room and point fingers.

  3. selling out? really? um Hello! She is a performer and a performer’s product is themselves. Therefor all performers must sell themselves to be employed, its really just marketing. Selling out isn’t an issue for someone making a living as a performer, have you read revolva’s article on the job? perhaps before you say rude things you should think about your accusations.

  4. “Find a couple that you inspire to be. Their love is what inspires you and ultimately will be the love you will manifest or create for yourself.”

…YES. Amen to that – worded so perfectly! I love the phrase “power couple”…brilliant. Thanks, Kit!
