Amazing Hoop Race Brazil: The Results
October 18, 2011 in Central / South America, Features
The Amazing Hoop Race, Hooping.org’s new revolutionary contest that has had fourteen teams competing in a virtual hula hoop race around the world, is currently in Porto Alegre, Brazil, where all of the Samba Hoop Dance video scores have been received from our Brazilian hosts. Mariana Bandarra, Vera Carvalho, Luzia Lindenbaum and Milenka Salinas are the board of BAM BAM BAM, the Brazilian hooping site, and they were also our panel of judges for the first leg of the race. How did they decide to go about assigning points for our Brazilian challenge?
The Vista Point video submissions from each of our teams was scored for 1) Overall creativity, 2) Overall dance-related aspects, 3) Overall Brazilian-ness, and 4) Partner Integration. Each judge assigned a score (0 to 10) for each of these four areas individually, and then they took the average of those four scores and that was added to each team’s total. After all four categories were added, point deductions were then made for exceeding the posted time limit, submissions posted after the deadline, as well as not being mindful of the Ten Easy Hooping Video Tips.
Our Brazilian judge’s Vista Point scores (40% of each team’s total) were then combined with our earlier Travel and Pit Stop Point totals (30% of each team’s total), and the final 30% came directly from you, our audience. Thank you everyone for your participation in our decision making process. And now we can reveal where each of our teams placed for the first leg of The Amazing Hoop Race and which team came in at the front of the pack.
In first place for this leg of the race, and the winner of a Hoop Loops VJ Mix Volume 1 DVD, is Team Bristol. Congratulations Cecile and Hannah, very nicely done!As for our other 13 teams, here’s how each of them placed for the first leg of The Amazing Hoop Race, with an understanding that they all came running in on each other’s heels so it was very tight:
2nd Place: Team Seattle
3rd Place: Team Texas
4th Place: Team London
5th Place: Team Orange County
6th Place: Team Georgia
7th Place: Team Australia
8th Place: Team North Carolina
9th Place: Team Wisconsin
10th Place: Team Maryland
And one more team also made it through to the next round, which was looking like it was going to be based on audience vote alone, that is until one of our four remaining teams posted a late video at approximately 12 noon yesterday:
11. Team Bay Area may have earned 20 Travel Points at the airport, but they lost most of them for failing to make the posting deadline. Nevertheless, their remaining travel points, combined with their public support carries them through to the next round.
Unfortunately that means that for Team Arizona, Team Israel and Team South Carolina, you are the last teams to arrive. I’m sorry, but you have been eliminated from the race. Thanks so much for making yourselves available to be a part of this new adventure. You’re all amazing hoopers in our book every day of the week!
As for our eleven remaining teams that will be moving on, we hope you’re getting some well deserved rest here at the pit stop. The next leg will begin soon and remember that once it does, everything will be new again: a new virtual destination, new judges, new challenges, and most of all a new tallyboard as all of the point totals for the first leg get reset to zero. It’s still anybody’s game!
And a very heartfelt thank you goes out to our dear friends in Porto Alegre for hosting the first leg of The Amazing Hoop Race. Nós te amamos e esperamos vê-lo novamente em breve! Viva la revolución!!
