Abby Albaum: Breathe Me

Abby Albaum of Hoola Monsters performs a hoop dance at the Hip Expressions Belly Dance Studio. The soundtrack, “Breathe Me” by Sia, according to the artist is “about being overwhelmed by your own inner dialogue and potentially doing yourself harm, and then asking for help.” This performance was dedicated to her cousin Brad who took his own life in 1998.     Thank you for dedicating your dance to your cousin – it’s important for us to acknowledge that depression can be a deadly disorder and we need to talk about it just as much as we talk about breast cancer, diabetes, and hypertension. Once we bring this into the light and lift the stigma more people who are overwhelmed by their inner dialogue will ask for help… again, thank you. It means a lot to me, as I am also someone who lost a loved one to suicide.
