Hooping Idol Casting Week Begins
March 8, 2011 in Community, Features
Hooping.org is proud to announce that casting week is now officially open for Hooping Idol, Hooping.org’s brand new contest that will present a series of revolutionary challenges that will lead us all on an ever spinning path in our search for the planet’s next great hooper star! While hoop skills are certainly helpful in a competition of this nature, we all know that when it comes to Idolization that the most technically proficient aren’t always the ones who rise to the top. What you will need to participate is personality, creativity, a video camera (or access to one), a YouTube account and a Hooping.org membership. Given that we are looking for the planet’s next great hooper star, those who have received nominations in Hooping.org’s annual Hoopie Awards celebration are not eligible to enter as their stars have already risen to a place of greater community recognition. The one exception are Newbie Hooper category nominees that did not win the award. In the end, Hooping.org’s Hooping Idol winner will receive a special unprecedented prize package, one that will be fully revealed later this week when we will also reveal which three hoop celebrities are going to be seated on our judges panel.
Do you (or someone you know) receive compliments regarding your hoop skills, yet people beyond your own local hoop community don’t really seem to know who you are? Have you always wanted to be a little more in the spotlight, but haven’t taken the time to simply step into it? Welcome to Hooping Idol, a contest unlike anything the hoopersphere has seen before and we invite you to join us in the fun and the frenzy and throw your hoop into the ring. You can do so quite simply by posting a casting week entry video on YouTube. It must have the headline “Hooping.org Hooping Idol Casting Week”. In your video please tell us who you are, show us where you live and share with us your hoop story. Casting week entries must be posted no later than 5:00pm PST on Saturday, March 12th, to be considered. Selected finalists will participate in a series of challenges over the next few weeks, ultimately making our way to Hooping.org’s Hooping Idol finale.

Well, my entry is brief to say the least, if you want to know more, you may have to ask nicely.
Just kidding. I discovered hoop dance @ 2006 Crique Berzerk, MY first burn.I performed in the Burning Man conclave last year, and I’ve been choreographing for beyond Fire Tribe, Our local fire dance community. Thought this might be fun! I’m definitely inticed by some sweet LED hoops, which i’ve never veen able to fit into my budget.

I’m uploading my video now, 3:45pm PST… YouTube is saying it’s going to take an hour and a half to upload… putting me after the cutt-off mark. I hope it goes through in time and I don’t get disqualified. *crosses fingers*
Best of luck to all the contestants! <3 Lulu

I’ve been arguing with YouTube all afternoon, and it’s just starting to upload my video (after trying three other times.) I really hope being a couple minutes late won’t leave me out of the running.
I’ll cross my fingers!

So, my video is uploaded, but it’s been “processing” for a while. I don’t know if that’ll get me disqualified or not, but I hope I’ll still be considered once it’s finally done processing.

So, this’ll be my last comment, I promise: Everything’s uploaded, but I also don’t see mine in the search results. My YouTube name is apneictrance, you can find it that way if it doesn’t show up in the search.

On behalf of Hooping.org thank you ALL for submitting entries. You’ve made Hooping Idol an incredibly difficult decision and you’re all so freakin talented and wonderful you’re all Hooping Idols in my book. Nothing but love for each and everyone of you.
As for those who noted that your videos were not findable via search on YouTube – they were. All of em.
For those reporting YouTube upload delays, and there were many of you, stating YouTube slowness was preventing you from making the deadline of 5pm, only because there were several of having similar issues it was decided to extend the deadline by two hours – and two hours only. Please note that if you are cast in the Hooping Idol competition it is wise to post early – don’t allow YouTube issues to blow your chances. The judges have a very limited time window so be proactive.
Again, nothing but the utmost love and respect. You’re all beautiful in every week and if I could I would cast each and every one of you in this thing I would.
HOOPfully Yours,
- Philo
