Hooping Idol Casting Week Begins
March 8, 2011 in Community, Features
Hooping.org is proud to announce that casting week is now officially open for Hooping Idol, Hooping.org’s brand new contest that will present a series of revolutionary challenges that will lead us all on an ever spinning path in our search for the planet’s next great hooper star! While hoop skills are certainly helpful in a competition of this nature, we all know that when it comes to Idolization that the most technically proficient aren’t always the ones who rise to the top. What you will need to participate is personality, creativity, a video camera (or access to one), a YouTube account and a Hooping.org membership. Given that we are looking for the planet’s next great hooper star, those who have received nominations in Hooping.org’s annual Hoopie Awards celebration are not eligible to enter as their stars have already risen to a place of greater community recognition. The one exception are Newbie Hooper category nominees that did not win the award. In the end, Hooping.org’s Hooping Idol winner will receive a special unprecedented prize package, one that will be fully revealed later this week when we will also reveal which three hoop celebrities are going to be seated on our judges panel.
Do you (or someone you know) receive compliments regarding your hoop skills, yet people beyond your own local hoop community don’t really seem to know who you are? Have you always wanted to be a little more in the spotlight, but haven’t taken the time to simply step into it? Welcome to Hooping Idol, a contest unlike anything the hoopersphere has seen before and we invite you to join us in the fun and the frenzy and throw your hoop into the ring. You can do so quite simply by posting a casting week entry video on YouTube. It must have the headline “Hooping.org Hooping Idol Casting Week”. In your video please tell us who you are, show us where you live and share with us your hoop story. Casting week entries must be posted no later than 5:00pm PST on Saturday, March 12th, to be considered. Selected finalists will participate in a series of challenges over the next few weeks, ultimately making our way to Hooping.org’s Hooping Idol finale.

Can’t wait to see some entries! I don’t like performing, myself–I hoop for my own selfish needs–but I totally enjoy others’ artistry. Looking forward, Judy

Wow! This has to be the coolest thing yet hooping.org. Hoops off to you for a great contest, idea! This is going to be so wonderful to share with all of the members of my hoop group to introduce them to the greater hooping community. Thank you!

My only questions, just for clarification: the initial casting video has no hooping in it, correct? just name, our story & showing where we live? And post it on youtube with the required title, no linking to here needed?
thanks, love!

While the instructions state what you must include, they do not say anything about what you must exclude.

this is super sweet!

Jennbekahk, I’m so glad someone else said that too!!! I feel the same way… nice to know I’m not alone!
I’ve never done any sort of performance stuff before. I receive lots of compliments on my hooping and am consistent in my practice…. but I’m oh so aware of where my technique is still weak, which doesn’t bother me when I’m just playing/jamming, but the thought putting a video up on Youtube for countless people to criticise makes me feel sick! Competing stresses me out…
Looking forward to following this tho and dishing out loads of hoop-love to the contenders!!! Exciting stuff indeed. xxxxxxxxx

if the troupe was nominated for a hoopie, are the performers in the troupe not allowed to enter?
Philo Hagen said on March 8, 2011
Technically they would be eligible as individuals as the troupe was nominated as a whole, not the individual. That being said, with the purpose of Hooping Idol being the search for the NEXT great hooperstar, there are members of troupes who are already well known as individuals in their own right, while there are others who are very unknown personally. So where will that line fall and how will it play out in casting week? I really don’t know – we’ll just have to wait and see.

I’m confused about how to enter. I just upload a youtube video and title it?
Philo Hagen said on March 8, 2011
And include the things in it that it says, yes.
B.J. said on March 8, 2011
KiT, you’d make a perfect Simon. (Other than the being a big jerk part). I vote for KiT for Simon

So do we need hooping in the casting video? This looks like fun, do we need to stick a link to the video somewhere?
Philo Hagen said on March 8, 2011
The instructions are clear about what needs to be included, but they do not say that you can’t hoop either. And no need to stick a link anywhere.

I’d love to participate, but speaking english is really intimidating to me and I don’t think my real personality would come out if I was focusing on the language..
So is it possible to use my own language? I would make translations too!
Philo Hagen said on March 9, 2011
English is not required.
Shawnee Hoops said on March 10, 2011
So I just post my video on You Tube with the title given, that’s it? I don’t have to fill out a application of any kind? Is there a video length limit? It’s raining terrible where I live, so I can’t go out and about in town, what should I do?
Thanks,
Shawnee Hoops
Philo Hagen said on March 10, 2011
Yes, that’s what the instructions say to do. No application. As for rain, life happens. Make it work
Jessie Zsolt said on March 10, 2011
Is there any way we can enter two people at once?
Philo Hagen said on March 10, 2011
Nope.
Kelsey said on March 10, 2011
