Michelle Obama Hula Hoops For New Years Eve

January 3, 2011 in Fresh

AlohaPresident Barack Obama rang in the new year with the Obama family’s annual New Year’s Eve talent show. White House spokesman Bill Burton told the press that it is an annual tradition. While Barack, known for his oratorical gifts, sang “You Are the Sunshine of My Life” when it was his turn to perform in 2009, this year his talent selection has been kept a closely guarded secret. First Lady Michelle, however, opted for a Hula-Hoop display. The First Family has been on the Hawaiian island of Oahu for more than a week, spending time barbecuing with friends, snorkeling at the island’s world-renowned reefs, and playing basketball and golf. They are having such a good time they decided to extend their trip for a few days, returning Tuesday. The only other details released about their Hawaiian holiday is that Barack has been catching up on his reading, specifically Lou Cannon’s biography of Ronald Reagan, “President Reagan: The Role of a Lifetime,” and two novels: “The Thousand Autumns of Jacob de Zoet,” by David Mitchell, and “Our Kind of Traitor,” by John le Carre.
