Serena King Gets Devonport Hooping

Serena KingThe Devonport Times in Devonport, Tasmania, Australia, writes, “Dust off the hula hoops. It might be the next craze and the East Devonport Community House wants to be the trend setter once again. The latest class to be added to the community house’s roster is hoop dancing. Instructor Serena King (pictured) started doing fire dancing and then got into hoop dancing. Mrs King said even though it was a fairly new sport in Australia, it had been in the United States for about 10 years. ‘There are hooping groups is Sydney and Melbourne so I am hoping to start one down here,’ she said. Not only is hooping great fun, but Mrs King said it was great to improve core strength and balance. She said it could be meditative activity similar to tai chi or yoga. ‘When you are learning something new, you forget everything else and it is just you and the hoop.’”
