Casandra Tanenbaum Gets South Florida Hooping

Casandra TanenbaumThe SunSentinel reports, “Whoever first muttered ‘no pain, no gain’ as an exercise philosophy obviously never tried hula hooping. What first surfaced as a toy for kids has now rolled into the adult fitness world, with workout videos, hoop dancing, and even the belief by some that there’s a certain spirituality to wiggling like a child. ‘It’s fun, easy fitness,’ says Casandra Tanenbaum [of Hoopsofly.com], who runs a weekly outdoor hula hoop gathering in West Palm Beach. ‘It’s impossible to hula hoop without a smile.’ The trend is circling around South Florida: A World Hoop Day celebration will be Oct. 10 in Lake Worth, and a hula hoop instructor training program is coming to Miami later this month. ‘When people begin hooping, they start taking more risks, then it becomes more like dancing,’ says Tanenbaum, 30. ‘That’s what we call hoop dancing. While hooping does get you fit, it’s a side effect of the dance.’” Full story: SunSentinel.com
