Kaivalya Hoop Dancers Spin Up Wakarusa

kaivalya One of the most popular sideshows at the recent Wakarusa Music and Camping Festival in Lawrence Kansas, was the Kaivalya Hoop Dancers. Kaivalya taught classes during the day to anybody wanting to learn more about hoop dancing. Laura Blakeman of Kaivalya told the University Daily Kansan, “There has been a resurgence in hoop dancing and it really is sweeping the nation right now in terms of fitness classes, dance classes,” Blakeman said. “A lot of performers are coming out of it too.” Kaivalya had between 50 and 75 people at their workshops with kids as young as 7 and adults in their mid 50’s. “It is fun to teach the people who are picking up the hoop for the first time because it is accessible and everyone can leave the class learning at least one trick or flashy move,” Blakeman said. “It is pretty empowering for people.” University Daily Kansan
